Thinkistan-The contemporary slice of life
Couldn't be a better subject to kickstart my blog.
Wonder how and why I missed/ignored this quiet hidden gem of a series!!And now it is one of my favourites.
Thinkistan,a 2019 series on MX Player is a delightful watch.Set in the 90s over a period of 7 to 8 years, the story, characters, situations and performances are extremely relatable. One can find many real life people one has met or known at some point in time in the characters
To be realistic a story need not be neccessarily set in dark alleys, underworld and gangsters.A simple, breezy tale set in an advertising agency can be as real and effective if made well.It does touch upon sensitive issues like sexual harrassment at work and homophobia to name a few.But nothing seems forced or overtly done.Barring a few hiccups, the narrative flows well and smoothly.Ofcourse it has its loose ends. But I seriously believe perfection is a myth😊
Thinkistan could well be termed as a sort of contemporary slice of life.
Moreover it is high on nostalgic value based in the 90s which were my stepping stone in the outside world on my own leaving the protective school life behind.
Loved the characters and performances.Shravan Reddy and Naveen Kasturia playing Hema and Amit, the two central protagonists coming from two diverse backgrounds, are so natural and real in their portrayals, you literally live their struggles, friendship, ups and downs.Mandira Bedi and Satyadeep Mishra stand out with their sensitive and sensible performances and well written characters. Was quite impressed with Mishra since the time I noticed him first in Smoke.
Equally well supported by Vasuki,Shradha Musale, Jayshree Venkatramanan, Anindita Bose,Rashmi Somvanshi, Jaswant Singh,
Kabir Bedi,Ninad Limaye,Neel Bhupalam,Paul Varghese, Dibyendu Bhattacharya,Shravan Karmarkar,Kaizad Kotwal, Purnima Rathod.
Thankfully Thinkistan stays away from pretences and any kind of artifice. The down to earth ambience makes it a sureshot winner.
