Cold Case-Murder mystery meets paranormal

Image
Cold Case-Malyalam Movie Cold Case is a very interesting Malyalam film with two stories running parallel. On one hand you have ACP Sathyajit (Prithviraj Sukumaran) investigating a murder mystery where the only lead is a skull of a woman found wrapped in a plastic bag. While on the other hand there is Medha(Adithi Balan),a television journalist/presenter facing some paranormal activity in the new house in which she has shifted with her little daughter and maid after separation from her husband. As Sathyajit progresses with his investigation and Medha moves forward in her quest to get to the bottom of the paranormal activities with guidance from a blind Occultist(Suchitra Pillai), the parallel lines start converging to ultimately reveal some startling truths and a story of deceit and crime. Very interestingly put together narrative and the way the two tracks finally meet has been shown in a very intriguing manner. No over the top or excessive horror sequences ...

Hungama 2-Hungama sans much noise

Image
Hungama 2 Borrowing some elements from his Hindi film debut Muskurahat, some doses of Hungama and adding some dashes of Gulzar's Parichay,Priyadarshan has created a very disappointing mishmash called Hungama 2. It does evoke a few laughs here and there, but mostly annoying. And at 2 hrs 35 mins it is too lengthy and a pain to sit through specially towards the end with too many characters, situations, plots and sub-plots. Ashutosh Rana does try to hold fort amid the mayhem with his balanced performance and screen presence. Meezan and Pranitha Subhash are competent but badly let down by poorly created characters and aimless direction. And why would Shilpa Shetty make a comeback in a role which looks like a glorified version of what Upasna Singh played in Hungama, the first of this franchise,is beyond me!! Paresh Rawal is highly irritating with his mumbling and looks lost throughout. Manoj Joshi,Rajpal Yadav,Johnny Lever add nothing new with their poorly written repetiti...

Cubicles-The Perfect Slice Of Life

Image
Slice of life is a genre I immensely enjoy.Cubicles is one such delightful series, hassle free, simple, sweet yet saying a lot if you hear.I had a smile throughout while watching this 5 episode TVF show. Small small incidents and moments from daily work and routine life, friendships, relationships, work place blues and joys and conversations are so well presented and enacted and so relatable.Loved the tone of humour.Subtle and effective. Abhishek Chauhan as the central character Piyush Prajapati is absolutely natural and effortless. You don't feel as if he is acting. It just flows so naturally.Had liked him earlier in Undekhi too. The interactions between Piyush and his boss Megha(Nidhi Bisht, another effortless performance) are absolutely delightful. Angad(Shivankit Singh Parihar),Kalpesh(Arnab Bhasin),Richa(Srishti Ganguly Rindani) are such brilliantly created characters equally brilliantly enacted. And by brilliant I don't mean over the top accentuated hi...
