Kuruthi(holy slaughter)-Malayalam Movie-A taut thriller
Kuruthi(holy slaughter)-Malayalam
Kuruthi(meaning holy slaughter) is an intriguing, edge of the seat Malyalam socio political thriller about communal tension and the futility of hatred.
A brilliantly created screenplay where every moment seems to be crackling with underlying tension, ready to blow up anytime. The taut narrative keeps you glued to the screen, not letting you waver for a second.
The multi layered characters add to the intrigue.
Most of the action happens in the course of one night when all the characters are thrown together in a secluded house by a turn of fate.
Ibrahim(Roshan Mathew) a peace loving, devout Muslim man,his ailing old father and younger brother Rasool who is highly influenced by extremist mindset,
Sumathi(Srindaa) a Hindu woman in love with Ibrahim but having her own individuality and strong opinion. Her brother Preman who lands up searching for his sister.Police Inspector Sathyan (Murali Gopi) and Vishnu an accused of murder in a communal clash. And then there is Laiq (Prthviraj Sukumaran) a ruthless extremist leader on the hunt for Vishnu.
A night laden with Confrontations,face-offs, decisions and revelations.A run and a chase for life and death. And the finale which leaves some disturbing questions about the baton of hatred which keeps being passed on.
The film is watchable for the sheer way the sensitive has been handled alongwith keeping up the thriller quotient till the end.Not even once do you feel it going over the top in terms of portrayal of situations or performances.Meaningful and thought provoking dialogues keep up the level.
Roshan Mathew is such a brilliant actor. His expressive eyes speak volumes.
Prithviraj Sukumaran is chilling as the cold blooded, merciless extremist leader.
Srindaa,Murali Gopi and rest of the cast too are top notch in their performances.
A worthy effort by director Manu Warrior who makes his entry in Malayalam cinema with this film.
