Dil Bekaraar-Delightfully refreshing
Dil Bekaraar-Disney Hotstar Series
Not having read Anuja Chauhan's Those Pricy Thakur Girls yet, can't say how close the narrative is to the book or how much justice it does with the cinematic liberties disclaimer, but Dil Bekaraar, based on the novel,is a completely delightful watch on it's own as a series.
A feel good, slice of life story based in Delhi in the 80s and 90s,Dil Bekaraar takes you on a refreshing, fun filled ride with the Thakurs and the Shekhawat's with ample doses of romance, drama, laughs and a dash of politics and chaos and above all that 80s-90s feel, which all who grew up and belonging to those times would relate to.
It has a very Hrishikesh Mukherjee coupled with 80's-90's DD serials feel(which I think was the best era of television) except for the gaalis ofcourse.
The fantastic ensemble starcast is another feather in the cap.
Web and OTT have been the best thing to happen to the extremely talented Akshay Oberoi, who inspite of doing some good work in movies, was not getting due recognition and appreciation. He plays Dylan Singh Shekhawat(a Rajput-Christian offspring) with much elan.A delight to watch always.
The petite and pretty Sahher Bammba as Debjani Thakur displays the right amount of strong headedness, confidence and confusion required for Dabbu. There's a certain freshness and pleasant appeal about her with that girl-next door charm.
Padmini Kolhapure's Bhoo Devi is a real screeam. What a fantastic performance as the pan chewing, gaali spewing over the top devrani(younger sister in law) a complete anti thesis to the prim and polished Jethani(elder sister in law) played by Poonam Dhillon.
The show also features Raj Babbar, Chandrachur Singh,Tej Sapru,Pankaj Kalra,Aditya Kapadia,Anjali Dinesh Anand,Sukhmani Sadana,Medha Shankar,Sonali Sachdev,Arjun Berry,Alekh Sangal,Hitesh Arora and others.
