Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui-Tackling issue with entertainment
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui-2022
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui might not be a masterpiece or great cinema. But it does deserve to be applauded for the subject it tackles and maintaining the entertainment quotient as well.
The story is told in a light and breezy manner to reach accross more people for awareness and acceptance and relatability rather than being preachy.
Some crass and cringeworthy dialogues(not the forced kind of abusive lingo though which we see in websries) do seem justified to showcase the mindsets and general mentality when it comes to speaking about or addressing transgender people.
Ayushmaan Khurrana as the somewhat thick headed, iron pumping Punjabi Munda is completely natural in the part. His name has become synonymous with films dealing with unique subjects and this is another addition.
For Vaani Kapoor it is one of those complex, one of a kind roles which she plays with great conviction. For the first time I think I had good things to say about her performance.Till now she's only been appearing as the quinessential glamour girl without much substance. Not that the glamour quotient is any less here. But then there is a substantial role and performance as well.
A supportive father played by Kanwaljeet Singh is a welcome change from the usual opposing dad characters.
Then you have some gleeful characters like the interefering sisters and the twin buddies of Khurrana.
Abhishek Kapoors's films have been a mixed bag till now. This is one of the better ones for sure and a brave effort irrespective of box office results.
On a parting note, heartening to see him dedicating the film to the late Sushant Singh Rajput in the opening credits, with whom be shared a close friendship and worked together in Kai Po Che and Kedarnath and who according to media reports was the original choice to play the lead when this film was initially planned.
